Modern Lodge Inspired Custom Ranch Home
This family was looking to build a comfortable, well-functioning, custom home that satisfies the space requirements and needs of a family with two teenage kids. They enjoy entertaining and wanted a living area that is functional and attractive. They wanted the master suite separate from the kids’ bedrooms and a main floor office.
For the main living area, they liked the idea of open concept with the living room, dining area, and kitchen all open, but they weren’t sure about having the kitchen fully exposed. They were concerned about needing to clean the kitchen when entertaining. They also wanted a large enough island to seat six people.
We created a solution by designing a butler’s pantry off the kitchen towards the front of the house. With maple butcher block countertops, plenty of open shelving, and pull out shelves, it enables them to prep meals in the pantry and keep most of the mess out of the kitchen.
The exterior design is a blend of Mountain, Craftsmen, and Modern Lodge. The house design incorporated stone, fiber cement board and batten, and lap siding. We added details such as wider rake trim with a shadow board and realistic vinyl shingle siding for lower maintenance. Our goal was to create a mix of modern and traditional that would sit well in the hills and scenery of Berlin, Ohio.
